Designed Massachusetts' statewide education data platform. It now serves 40,000 active users

I led end-to-end UX research and design for Massachusetts' Education-to-Career (E2C) Research & Data Hub, a statewide platform that turns complex education and workforce data into insights educators, students, policymakers, and employers can actually use. Since launch, the Hub has grown to 40,000+ active users across the Commonwealth

The Problem

The existing platform buried data behind a dense layout, limited filtering, and inconsistent navigation. Non-technical visitors felt overwhelmed by raw numbers, while power users couldn't move fast enough to compare and analyze. My goal: cut cognitive load, boost discoverability, and design one system flexible enough for every literacy level.

Blueprint First, Build Second

Since this platform was built from scratch, discovery had to be airtight. I drafted acceptance criteria, mapped the full user flow, and defined the site architecture before any visual design began. Low-fidelity mockups were validated with senior stakeholders, then stress-tested in a private usability session before launch. Every sprint, vendor task, and round of feedback was tracked in Jira to keep the internal team and outside vendor aligned.

Working within the structured constraints of the state's Tyler platform, without standing up a separate custom build. I redesigned the E2C experience by re-architecting layout hierarchy, navigation, content structure, and visual consistency. The result: a streamlined, accessible system that helps educators, students, policymakers, and workforce professionals find and understand critical insights faster.

Unbound Creativity

Government platforms are often boxed in by strict constraints. This concept shows what the Hub could look like with more creative freedom. While still respecting the visual language of state government.
